For half a day in Cijin, first identify your departure pier and ferry route. Then you can explore the old street and shore at your own pace without worrying about where to return.

On a first visit, the Gushan Ferry Station to Cijin Ferry Station route is a straightforward option. Leave your island time for Miaoqian Road and the nearby coast. The Kaohsiung City Shipping Company's Gushan–Cijin route page lists this service with fare, operating and ticket information. Kaohsiung also has other routes, including a service from KW2 to Cijin; departure points and ticket rules differ. Even if a sign says 'Cijin', check the pier in front of you and the return destination. For a wider city itinerary, start with our Kaohsiung travel guide, and do not pack every harbour sight into one afternoon.

Before boarding at Gushan: tickets and the return route

ferry operator's directions to Gushan Ferry Station give its address on Binhai 2nd Road and show how to walk from Sizihwan MRT Station or Hamasen light-rail stop. At the harbour, locate the official pier signs and queue before checking the ticket or stored-value card instructions. The operator lists cards such as iPASS and EasyCard, but discounts and rules for bicycles or motorcycles can vary by passenger and date, including holiday restrictions. Follow today's station notices. With large luggage, a stroller or a vehicle, ask staff which entrance to use instead of following a crowd into the wrong line. Our EasyCard guide helps first-time visitors understand stored-value cards; check the operator for the actual ferry fare.

Before boarding, ask about the journey back: will you return to Gushan or land in another harbour area? Different routes from Cijin reach different parts of the mainland, so a wrong boat could complicate your MRT, light-rail or hotel connection. If you also plan to visit Pier-2 Art Center in half a day, compare Pier-2's location with your chosen ferry terminals. Being near the harbour does not guarantee a quick walk between them. Follow instructions when queuing, boarding and moving on deck; do not block a gangway or lean over a rail for a skyline photo.

Stage Half-day plan Check on site
Gushan Ferry Station Find the Gushan–Cijin route and decide which shore you need for the return Queue entrance, fare card, luggage or vehicle rules and today's service
Cijin Ferry Station After disembarking, identify the entrance and signs for ferries back to Gushan Return queue and the last available sailing
Miaoqian Road old street Try a snack and see the street at your own pace, leaving time to rest Shop openings, prices, queues and dietary needs
Coast or return trip Walk to the shore if weather permits; shorten the route in heat or rain Wind, waves, thunderstorms, sun and ferry service changes

This table divides a half-day; it does not guarantee ferry departures or shop hours. The operator lists Gushan–Cijin and KW2–Cijin as separate routes. The Cijin Ferry Station information page also helps you identify where to arrive and depart. Queues and boarding may take longer at busy times. For the return, allow for waiting, disembarking and transfers, not just the sailing time shown on your phone. If a typhoon warning, strong wind or another disruption stops service, follow official notices and change plans rather than waiting for a planned meal or photo.

On Cijin, walk the old street; choose the shore if weather allows

Taiwan Tourism Administration's Cijin attraction guide notes seafood restaurants on Miaoqian Road by the ferry pier and Cijin Tianhou Temple nearby. There is no need to rush around the island after disembarking. Find water, toilets and a place to eat on the old street first, then decide whether to head to the shore. Before ordering seafood, ask how it is priced, the portion and the total; a single number on a sign may not be the price for your whole meal. For an introduction to local food and ordering, see our introduction to Taiwanese food; the restaurant's current menu is the final word.

Cijin has a fine coast, but seeing the sea does not mean you must enter the water. Sun, wind, waves and afternoon thunderstorms can change beach safety. On arrival, read the posted warnings and stay within open areas. Do not cross barriers or climb wave breakers for a photograph. With children, older companions or anyone affected by heat, make the old street and one short coastal stretch the focus; add other stops only if time allows. If rain strengthens, return to a sheltered street or prepare for the ferry. Our rainy-day itinerary guide can help you shorten the day.

Back at Cijin Ferry Station, check the destination and fare card again; similar-looking queues do not necessarily lead to the same pier. If your next stop is an airport, station or another city, decide when to leave before sitting down for a meal. Our Kaohsiung Airport to city transport guide can help you plan onward connections. A comfortable half-day in Cijin leaves time for the return ferry, the old street and changing weather, rather than trying to tick off every sight on a map. Recheck sailings, fares and safety notices on the day you travel.
