Songshan Airport is already in Taipei, so there is no need to look for the Taoyuan Airport MRT. First find the station nearest your hotel. Then decide whether to transfer on the Wenhu Line or take a taxi to the door.
Songshan Airport is within Taipei city. The MRT station beside the terminals is BR13 Songshan Airport on the Wenhu Line; it is different from Songshan Station, which serves Taiwan Railways and the MRT. On arrival, the biggest time-waster is a vague destination such as ‘central Taipei.’ Taipei Main Station, Ximending and Xinyi require different transfers. Enter your hotel's address on a map, identify the nearest MRT station and exit, then consult the guide to Taipei's accommodation districts before you travel. That is easier than deciding while pulling luggage through a station.
Three common destinations: choose your transfer station first
Follow the signs from the terminal to Songshan Airport Station and board the Wenhu Line. You can change to the Songshan–Xindian Line at Nanjing Fuxing, the Bannan Line at Zhongxiao Fuxing, or the Tamsui–Xinyi Line at Daan. The best choice depends on the station nearest your hotel. For Taipei Main Station, changing to the red line at Daan is one option; you can also use the official Songshan Airport MRT station guide to compare other routes. For Ximending, use the green line from Nanjing Fuxing or the blue line from Zhongxiao Fuxing, depending on your hotel's exit. For Xinyi, change to the red line at Daan if your destination is near Taipei 101/World Trade Center. There is no single best transfer for every address. With large luggage, one fewer change may matter more than shaving a few minutes off the walk.
| Approximate hotel location | MRT route to consider | Check before exiting |
|---|---|---|
| Near Taipei Main Station | Take the Wenhu Line to Daan, then the red line toward Taipei Main Station | Check the exit closest to your hotel; Taipei Main Station's underground passages cover a large area |
| Ximending | Change from the Wenhu Line to the green line at Nanjing Fuxing, or to the blue line at Zhongxiao Fuxing | Choose the Ximen Station exit closest to your hotel to avoid doubling back at street level |
| Xinyi District | Change from the Wenhu Line to the red line at Daan; choose your stop by your hotel's location | Taipei 101/World Trade Center and Taipei City Hall are on different MRT lines |
This table gives route ideas, not live schedules. If you are continuing by Taiwan Railways or high-speed rail, allow extra time to transfer; the high-speed rail ticketing and transfer guide can help you plan your onward ticket. The official Taipei MRT Songshan Airport Station map marks the exits and lifts. With a stroller, wheelchair or large suitcase, checking the map before departure is safer than guessing from an exit number.
Luggage, tickets and late-arrival options
With only a small bag, the MRT is usually straightforward. If you have several suitcases, someone in your party has limited mobility, or your hotel is a long walk from the station, a taxi can spare you the lifts, passages and street navigation. Show the driver your hotel's full address in Chinese rather than only a district name. For app-based rides, confirm the vehicle registration and pickup point. Travel time and cost depend on traffic, so treat online estimates as estimates. The Taipei tourism site's guide from Songshan Airport to the city provides a useful overview before arrival.
Before using the MRT, review how to use an EasyCard, or follow the ticket machine's current instructions to buy a single ticket. Ticket options can change; Taipei Travel's MRT information and station notices are more reliable than an old blog screenshot. Save an offline image of your destination station's Chinese and English names, your hotel address and the exit number. If your phone has no connection just after landing, that is easier than searching again on the platform. You can also save the first-day mobile internet backup guide ahead of time.
If you arrive late, check the last MRT service and the route out of the terminal before deciding whether to take a taxi. Timetables can change, so this guide does not promise a last-train time or fixed fare. If you have not chosen where to stay, consult the Taipei district guide to see how Taipei Main Station, Ximen and Xinyi relate to one another. For sightseeing the next day, use the Taipei MRT beginner's guide to plan your route. A practical arrival order is: confirm your hotel's station, check the current route, find the lift and exit, and have the address ready before boarding. Those four steps should keep you from circling the transfer corridors with your luggage.
