Tainan HSR Station is in Guiren District, beside TRA Shalun Station; the downtown TRA Tainan Station is a different stop. The Tainan Tourism Network'sHSR access guidealso explains this connection. If your hotel is near TRA Tainan Station, treat the Shalun-to-Tainan ride as a separate leg. If you are staying near the western side of West Central District or Yonghua Civic Center, an H31 stop may be more convenient. Start withTainan travel topicswithTainan travel guide, mark the neighborhood you want to visit first, then choose your ride.

Choose your transfer by where you are staying

To reach TRA Tainan Station from the HSR station, follow the second-floor passage to TRA Shalun Station and take a Shalun Line train toward Tainan. This connection is described on theTaiwan HSR Tainan Station page. Before departure, use theTRA HSR-to-rail transfer plannerto check the train's stops and the last departure. Shalun Station is not downtown. A train whose final destination says Shanhua or Yongkang may still be useful; check whether it stops at Tainan rather than relying on the destination name alone.

If your destination is near Xiaoximen, Fuqian Road or Yonghua Civic Center, check the H31 HSR shuttle bus. Its officialH31 route and timetablelists stops including Xiaoximen, Jianxing Junior High School and Yonghua Civic Center. It does not go to TRA Tainan Station. HSR passengers who meet the conditions and show proof of their HSR journey may qualify for the shuttle benefit. For ordinary fares and boarding rules, refer to theTainan City Transportation Bureau's guidanceand current on-site notices. Metered taxis are available outside the station and can work well late at night, for a group with large bags, or when the hotel is far from both rail and bus stops. Show the driver the full hotel address before leaving; saying only city center is too vague.

Your first stop

Consider first

What to do on arrival

Check before travel

TRA Tainan Station and nearby hotels

TRA Shalun Line

Take the second-floor passage to Shalun Station and board a train toward Tainan

Stops, transfer time and last train

Near Xiaoximen, Fuqian Road or Yonghua Civic Center

H31 HSR shuttle bus

Compare your hotel with H31 stops, then head to the bus terminal

Today's stops, timetable and benefit eligibility

Late arrival, a group or large luggage

Metered taxi

Find the taxi stand and give the full destination address

Queue and actual fare

This table helps you choose a direction; it is not a live timetable. Train and bus schedules change, and construction or events may move stops. If your HSR arrival is close to the last TRA departure, allow time to find the platform, handle luggage and buy a ticket. For a multi-city trip, start with ourTaiwan High Speed Rail Guide, then leave a sensible buffer between your HSR train and the next leg.

Follow this order on arrival to avoid backtracking

Before leaving the station, open your hotel address and see whether it is near TRA Tainan Station, Xiaoximen or Anping. For the rail-station area, follow signs for TRA Shalun Station through the second-floor passage and check that your train stops at Tainan. From TRA Tainan Station, choose walking, a city bus or a short taxi ride based on the address. For Xiaoximen or the civic-center area, compare your hotel with the official H31 stop list; the return stop may be on the other side of the road. If you are going straight to Anping Old Street, do not assume H31 goes there. The Tainan Tourism Network'sAnping and old-town itineraryshows local onward travel from TRA Tainan Station and can help you plan that second leg.

Think about each ticket and payment separately: HSR, TRA and city buses have different rules. If you have a transit card, see ourEasyCard guidebut do not assume an HSR ticket covers the Shalun Line or every bus. H31 benefits apply only when you meet the official conditions; otherwise prepare to pay the regular fare. Check the return journey in the same way, especially your HSR departure time, the Shalun Line's last train and the day's H31 services. Do not leave the final transfer too tight.

The easiest plan is to stay in an area you are comfortable reaching on your first night. If you have already booked, compare your hotel address with the rail station and H31 stops. If you are still choosing a hotel, use ourguide to choosing where to stayto decide between the TRA station area and West Central District. Once you reach town, use ourTainan food guideto find food in the same neighborhood instead of dragging luggage across town for your first meal. Put your transfer, hotel and first meal on one map, and your first day in Tainan will feel much easier.

Tainan HSR Station is outside the city center.
