Check official notices for information that may change.

From Longshan Temple MRT Station, you can see the temple and Bopiliao in one half-day in Wanhua. Distinguish an active worship space from historic-street exhibitions, and check whether your visit falls on Bopiliao’s Monday closure.

Longshan Temple and Bopiliao are close, but they offer different experiences. The temple remains a place of worship, not merely a monument for visitors. Bopiliao preserves old street buildings and hosts exhibitions and events. Start at Longshan Temple MRT Station, look at the temple’s front, main and rear halls, then continue to Bopiliao if it is open that day. Our Taipei travel guide can help place Wanhua within a full day, without squeezing distant Dadaocheng or Beitou into the same short afternoon. If you have just arrived at Songshan Airport, see our Songshan Airport-to-city transport guide and allow time for luggage and transfers.

Look at Longshan Temple’s architecture and keep worship routes clear

The temple’s official history records that people from three Fujian counties founded it in 1738. It was rebuilt several times and now has front, main and rear halls with side wings. This is not a building frozen at its founding date. From the front hall, observe the roof ornaments, stone carvings and entrances, then follow on-site signs. That is a better half-day than trying to photograph every detail. Rituals, festivals and repairs may alter circulation. Follow notices, stay out of closed areas and avoid standing in front of worshippers for a long photograph. Speak quietly inside even if you are not there to worship.

Longshan Temple sits in busy Wanhua. Roads, entrances and station exits can be crowded at peak times. If someone in your group has limited mobility, check usable entrances and places to rest. A stroller or large suitcase can make a straight-line distance on a map misleading. Summer heat and afternoon storms can slow the walk. Treat the MRT station as your return point, then decide whether to continue to the historic block. For another old-city theme, see our Dadaocheng and Dihua Street walk; it is not simply the next street after Longshan Temple.

Half-day stage

How to spend the time

Check that day

Longshan Temple Station

Confirm your exit and direction back

MRT, weather and luggage

Longshan Temple

Follow the site route and respect worshippers

Rituals, closed areas and crowds

Bopiliao street

Look at façades from different periods

Monday closure and street access

Exhibitions or return

Enter exhibitions only if open; otherwise return to the station

Exhibition hours, current shows and rain

Bopiliao’s streets and exhibition rooms have different hours

Bopiliao Historic Block’s official visitor information lists separate hours for the street and exhibition spaces and explicitly says it closes on Mondays. Typhoons and other severe weather may bring further closures. The backfill date for this article, September 21, 2026, was a Monday; this is not a record of entering Bopiliao’s exhibition rooms that day. If you plan to visit on a future Monday, focus on the temple and Wanhua streets that are actually open. Seeing an exterior wall does not mean indoor exhibitions are available. On other days, check the current program: an open street does not guarantee every exhibition room has a show.

The block’s official history describes architecture from the Qing, Japanese colonial and postwar periods. Notice the façades, covered walkways and street scale rather than treating it as a set from just one era. The official transport page explains MRT and other approaches. From the station, use crossings and pavements instead of stepping into traffic for a photograph. Smoking is prohibited, and rules protect the historic buildings. Cycling, skating and large filming equipment face restrictions; groups and commercial shoots should check the venue rules first.

If it is Monday, the block closes unexpectedly, or heavy rain begins, do not force both stops. Enjoy a shorter walk around Longshan Temple or consult our Taiwan rainy-day itinerary guide. For a large indoor museum, another option is our National Palace Museum half-day guide, but allow separately for the transfer from Shilin. Before heading back, confirm the MRT entrance and service; an exhibition’s closing time is not the last train. This September 21 backfill uses information available from the temple and Bopiliao on October 11. Recheck access, exhibitions, transport and weather before a future visit.

Walk from Longshan Temple MRT Station to the temple and Bopiliao Historic Block.
